Raised in Cookeville, Mary attended Cookeville High School and graduated from The University of Tennessee with a degree in Psychology and a Masters in Education. Mary taught first grade for eleven years, ten of which were in Knoxville. She and her husband, Clint, returned to Cookeville after the birth of their son Crosby.
